Das endlose Meer
Mit dem Wind in den Segeln trieb das „Schiff der Toten“ über die Oberfläche des scheinbar endlosen Meeres. Keineswegs wurde das hölzerne Gefäß auf diesen Namen getauft, erhielt es doch den Namen von seiner eigenen Besatzung, die wie Geister über das Deck schlenderten. Die rechte Hand des Kapitäns, Raktos, hatte nun den Befehl, da sich der ursprüngliche Kapitän aus Angst in seiner Kammer eingeschlossen hatte.
Raktos stand am Steuerrad des Piratenschiffes, seine Augen nur teilweise geöffnet. Seine ungepflegten, schwarzen Haare wehten im Wind, während die Wellen das Gefäß zum Schaukeln brachten. Er betrachtete die Männer, die seufzten und jammerten, denn sie hatten seit langer Zeit kein Land und auch kein Schiff mehr gesehen. Niemand wusste genau, wie lange das Schiff bereits auf dem Meer trieb. Waren es Tage? Oder Wochen? Es konnten sogar Monate sein! Jedenfalls schwanden die Vorräte rasant und auch die Gesundheit der meisten Besatzungsmitglieder litt bereits. Besonders die jungen Männer an Bord litten schwer an den mangelnden Vorräten.
Wo in einem Moment noch nur das Knarren der hölzernen Balken, die das Schiff ausmachten, und das Schlagen der Wellen zu hören war, ertönte im nächsten das Geschrei von Männern und das Geräusch von Säbeln, die gezogen wurden. Sofort eilte der befehlshabende Mann zur Quelle der Geräusche und sah, wenig überrascht, die Besatzung in zwei Gruppen, die sich gegenseitig mit Säbel und Revolver bedrohten, aufgeteilt. „Was in den sieben Weltmeeren geht hier vor sich?“, schrie Raktos, wobei sein trockener Hals nur ein kratzendes Rufen produzieren konnte.
Der Navigator des Schiffes, Thomas, zeigte mit der Spitze seiner Klinge auf die gegenüberliegende Gruppe, angeführt vom Kanonier des Schiffes, Markus, und schrie mit krächzender Stimmer: „Dieses Gesindel möchte das Boot übernehmen!“ Die tiefe Stimme des großgewachsenen Kanoniers wurde vom Klicken einiger Steinschlosspistolen begleitet: „Wir sind verloren ihr Narren! Wo ist euer Kapitän? Unter seiner Führung sind wir erst in diese Situation gekommen!“ Zustimmendes Gemurmel. Es war ein Moment wie dieser, den Raktos zu einem guten Anführer machte. Mit gelassener Stimme erklärte er den Anwesenden: „Der Geist des Kapitäns ruht bereits unter den Wellen! Solange ihr also nicht gegen einen Leichnam rebellieren und möglicherweise noch festen Boden unter euren Füßen spüren wollt, so senkt eure Waffen!“
Keiner bewegte auch nur einen Muskel, die Luft schien vor Anspannung zu knistern. Doch dann geschah ein Wunder. Aus dem Krähennest erklang das helle Leuten einer Glocke. Zuerst nur einmal, doch dann zwei und dann sogar dreimal. Jeder an Board kannte dieses Signal und plötzlich stürzte jeder Mann mit neuer Kraft an seinen Posten. Mit neu gewonnenem Enthusiasmus rief Raktos den Männern zu: „Land in Sicht!“ und zeigte zum Horizont, auf dem sich die Silhouette einer großen Insel bildete, während er zurück zum Steuerrad hastete. Sie hatten endlich neues Land entdeckt. . .
